A pre-inspection briefing was held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, and the following facility was inspected on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 : FACILITY NAME BSCC # FACILITY TYPE Del Norte County Detention Facility 0640 II This inspection was conducted pursuant to Penal Code Section 6031 to determine compliance with the Minimum Standards for Local Detention Facilities as outlined in Titles 15 and 24, California Code of Regulations. In addition to inspections by the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC), inspections are also required annually by the County Health Officer and biennially by the State Fire Marshal or an authorized representative (Health and Safety Code Sections 101045 and 13146.1). The results of those inspections are considered a part of this report. INSPECTION RESULTS We identified the following items of noncompliance with Title 15 Minimum Standards: Title 15 Section §1027. Number of Personnel The agency is unable to routinely complete safety checks within the 60-minute requirement due to a lack of staffing. Title 15 Section §1027.5 (b) Safety Checks Safety checks are not conducted within the required 60-minute time frame Title 15 Section §1056. Use of Sobering Cell 1) At the time of the onsite inspection, Sobering Cell #1 was being utilized for an individual under medical observation not relating to intoxication. 2) Observation logs do not reflect medical or custodial evaluation for continued retention for placements of more than six (6) hours.
