October 7, 2025 Tina Nieto, Sheriff-Coroner Monterey County Sheriff’s Office 1414 Natividad Road Salinas, CA 93906 2025-2026 UNANNOUNCED INSPECTION, PENAL CODE SECTION 6031, WELFARE & INSTITUTIONS CODE SECTION 209, MONTEREY COUNTY SHERIFF’S DETENTION FACILITY Dear Sheriff Nieto: An Unannounced Inspection of the Monterey County Sheriff's Office was completed for the following facility on Thursday, July 10, 2025: FACILITY NAME BSCC # FACILITY TYPE Monterey County Jail 3280 II This inspection was conducted pursuant to Penal Code Section 6031 to determine compliance with the Minimum Standards for Local Detention Facilities as outlined in Titles 15 and 24, California Code of Regulations. INSPECTION RESULTS The focus of the Unannounced Inspection was to evaluate continued compliance with the following California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 15 regulations: Section 1027.5 - Safety Checks, Section 1055 – Use of Safety Cell, Section 1056 – Use of Sobering Cell, and Section 1265 – Issue of Personal Care Items. The inspection consisted of a site visit, conversations with facility staff, and a documentation review of a random sample of safety checks, safety cell logs, and sobering cell logs from the Monterey County Jail. We identified no items of noncompliance with Title 15 Minimum Standards.
