June 23, 2025 Ian Parkinson, Sheriff-Coroner San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office 1545 Kansas Avenue San Luis Obispo, California 93405 2025-2026 UNANNOUNCED INSPECTION, PENAL CODE SECTION 6031, WELFARE & INSTITUTIONS CODE SECTION 209, SAN LUIS OBISPO SHERIFF’S OFFICE DETENTION FACILITIES Dear Sheriff Parkinson: An Unannounced Inspection of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office was completed for the following facility on Wednesday, May 28, 2025: FACILITY NAME BSCC # FACILITY TYPE San Luis Obispo County Jail 4800 II This inspection was conducted pursuant to Penal Code Section 6031 to determine compliance with the Minimum Standards for Local Detention Facilities as outlined in Titles 15 and 24, California Code of Regulations. INSPECTION RESULTS The focus of the Unannounced Inspection was to evaluate compliance with the listed regulations for the selected period of March 30, 2025, through April 1, 2025: §1027.5 Safety Checks §1055 Use of Safety Cell §1056 Use of Sobering Cell §1058 Use of Restraints Board of State and Community Correction (BSCC) staff were provided safety checks for the time period, 25 safety cell placement reports, and 56 sobering cell placement reports. Upon review of the documentation, no noncompliance issues were identified. The facility reported no restraint placements during the selected time frame. We identified no items of noncompliance with Title 15 Minimum Standards. An Exit Briefing with your staff was held on Monday, June 16, 2025; BSCC staff presented an inspection overview and discussed technical assistance and best practice recommendations.
