Johnson, Sheriff Shasta County Sheriff’s Office 300 Park Marina Circle Redding, CA 96001 2023-2024 UNANNOUNCED INSPECTION, PENAL CODE 6031, WELFARE & INSTITUTIONS CODE 209 SHASTA COUNTY TYPE II FACILITY Dear Sheriff Johnson: Pursuant to Penal Code section 6031 (b), on August 28, 2023, the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) staff conducted an unannounced inspection of the Shasta County Jail, BSCC #5360. The focus of the unannounced inspection was to verify continued compliance with Title 15 sections 1055, Use of a Safety Cell, 1056 Use of a Sobering Cell, and 1260 Standard Institutional Clothing. INSPECTION RESULTS Title 15, CCR Minimum Standards The inspection consisted of a site visit, a walkthrough of the intake area, interviews with administration staff, the inspection of the condition of clothing issued at intake, a sampling review of documentation for safety checks for safety cells, and a sampling review of sobering placement justification documentation. During the onsite inspection, we found no items of noncompliance with Title 15 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR), Minimum Standards for Local Detentions Facilities sections we inspected.
