July 29, 2024 Tim Saxon, Sheriff-Coroner Trinity County Sheriff’s Office 101 Memorial Drive Weaverville, CA 96093 2023-2024 UNANNOUNCED INSPECTION, PENAL CODE SECTION 6031, TRINITY COUNTYDETENTION FACILITY Dear Sheriff Saxon: An Unannounced Inspection of the Trinity County Sheriff's Office Jail was completed for the following facility on Tuesday, July 16, 2024: FACILITY NAME BSCC # FACILITY TYPE Trinity County Jail 5830 II This inspection was conducted pursuant to Penal Code Section 6031 to determine compliance with the Minimum Standards for Local Detention Facilities as outlined in Titles 15 and 24, California Code of Regulations. INSPECTION RESULTS The focus of the Unannounced Inspection was to evaluate Title 15 regulations 1032 Fire Preplanning and 1280 Facility Maintenance. We identified no items of noncompliance with Title 15 Minimum Standards. No items of noncompliance were identified with Title 24 Minimum Standards. Although items were not out of compliance, there was a discussion of multiple cells that were not being used due to broken windows that have not been repaired and computer programming issues with the intercom system. Additionally, the gates to the vehicle sallyport that are not working are issues of security concern. Knowing that this is a relatively new facility, these issues will become items of noncompliance if repairs are not completed in a timely manner. An out brief with your staff was held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024; BSCC staff presented an inspection overview and discussed technical assistance and best practice recommendations. * * * Tim Saxon Sheriff-Coroner Page 2 Please email me at dale.miller@bscc.ca.gov or call (916) 956-3679 if you have any questions.
