2023-2024 TARGETED INSPECTION, WELFARE & INSTITUTIONS CODE SECTIONS
209 & 885, INYO COUNTY PROBATION DEPARTMENT DETENTION FACILITY
Dear Chief Thomson:
The 2023-2024 Targeted Inspection of the Inyo County Probation Department has been
postponed due to your Special Purpose Juvenile Hall (SPJH) not housing any youth
during the 2024 calendar year.
If and when you house youth, please notify the Board of State and Community
Corrections; the inspection will be conducted pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code
Sections 209 and 885 to determine compliance with the Minimum Standards for Juvenile
Detention Facilities as outlined in Titles 15 and 24, California Code of Regulations.
In addition to inspection(s), Title 15, Section 1313, and its authorizing statute require
annual inspections conducted by a local Health Officer, fire authority having jurisdiction,
county building inspection by an agency designated by the County Board of Supervisors,
County Superintendent of Schools, Juvenile Court, and Juvenile Justice Commission. In
the future, the results of those inspections will be considered a part of this report.
